When people think of a “healthy lifestyle,” they assume it involves clean eating and exercising. Although both are important to sustaining a healthy life, there are other pieces that contribute to your overall health.
A component that most people neglect is sleep. One of my biggest struggles lately has been making sure that I get at least 7 hours of sleep. When I don’t get enough sleep, I am physically and mentally exhausted.
I pay for it in the next morning when I wake up exhausted from not getting enough sleep.
Right now, I’m leading the team in the Whole Life Challenge at my job. Everyday we fill out a questionnaire to score our nutrition, exercise, mobilization, hydration, sleep, and lifestyle. We submit our scores and reflections.
Make conscious choices that support your vision for a healthy lifestyle.
Exercise for at least 10 minutes. I encourage at least 30 minutes of your favorite exercise routine.
Stretch for at least 10 minutes a day.
Sleep the number of hours you have prescribed for yourself.
Drink one-third of your body weight in water.
Incorporate gratitude, meditation and supporting others into your day.
Reflect on how you did that day. By writing it down you will be able to track your progress and help others.
I love this challenge because it will make me more accountable for all aspects of my health. Another important piece of overall health is your mental state.
I believe this is just as important as exercise and nutrition.
A healthy mindset will keep you on the right track to sustaining a healthy life. Positive thinking is key.
I always emphasize that because it has changed my life. When I am in a negative state, I am not thriving.
You must surround yourself around positive people and keep your spirits up. Set aside time to do something that will relax you.
Ultimately, it’s all about balance. Everyday we won’t be perfect. The goal should always to become better.
