Transitioning to a Healthier Lifestyle

By Posted on 0 2 m read 304 views

Living and implementing a healthier lifestyle isn’t easy. It took a lot of time, discipline and research to make the changes towards living a healthier life. With constant dedication it has been easier to transition to a better lifestyle.

When I was in Middle School and High School, I used to have terrible eating habits. Some of my favorite foods were Hot Cheetos, Doritos, Starburst, McGriddles, KFC Honey BBQ Wings, etc.

Growing up in the inner city access to healthy foods was limited. Exercise is not largely promoted as well. I also did a lot of emotional eating. I didn’t know at the time that the fats and oils were giving me a temporary high.

After a while of eating unhealthy, I decided to make changes to my diet and eating habits. When I first started this transition, I cut out the unhealthy snacks and oily food from my diet. A couple of things that I immediately cut were fast food, sugary drinks and fried foods. I started controlling the portions to my meals and ate out less. I began exercising at least 30 minutes a day.

Over time, I was able to shed the extra weight and I started to feel more confident in myself. For health and political reasons, I removed meat from my diet. As a result, my blood pressure decreased and my energy levels increased.

Once I started seeing results, I was more motivated to keep pushing forward. Instead of emotional eating, I keep in mind to eat for nutrients and not emotions. I love knowing I have more control of my life.

Here are some of tips that have helped me stay on track. #ChristalTips:

  • Stop eating fast food!
  • Drink more water
  • Learn what is healthy and how you can make it tasty
  • At least 30 min of exercise per day!
  • Make fitness fun! Create playlists to workout too
  • Surround yourself with others who enjoy eating well and working out

What are some things you’ve done to transition into living a healthier lifestyle?
