I was 20 years old when I started my yoga journey. Finding an exercise that incorporated stretching, balance, and flexibility was right up my alley.
When I first started, I didn’t know where to begin so I bought a couple of DVDs to get my feet wet. After I started getting into the practice of yoga, I immersed myself into the art and craft of it.
I noticed immediately that I was becoming more peaceful and centered.
People assume that with yoga, you have to pose in difficult positions but there is so much more to it.
You have to connect your mind, body, and soul to become balanced. The practice of balancing yourself and breathing is what brings you serenity.
When I am practicing, I am able to zone out and bring myself to a meditative state. Aside from being more peaceful, I’ve gained a tremendous amount of strength and confidence. My view on life has completely changed. I’ve learned how to quiet my mind and live in the moment. I’ve become less anxious, depressed, stressed, and angry.
Yoga is a fantastic form of exercise but one thing I’ve benefited the most is how it has helped me manage stress.
I have a stacked schedule and sometimes that becomes an excuse for me to not take control of my life. Yoga has been a great way for me to control life’s schedule and create “me” time. I started taking back my life when I implemented these small changes into my lifestyle.
I encourage you to incorporate yoga into your workout routine. If you are new to the practice, start with a beginners DVD and/or yoga app. If you have been practicing for a while, I encourage you to take classes at your local studio. Currently, I take classes at YogaWorks. I love the variety of classes they offer.
